For You to Try
Exercises
Exercise for a Good Day
- What is your daily routine? Are you satisfied with your routine?
- Did you accomplish what you had hoped to do? A little is good.
- What is the best moment of your day? Can you make that part of your everyday?
- Did you learn something new today about yourself or someone else?
- Did you do something for your body today? Your mind? Your spirit?
- What were you grateful for today? Is there anything you would do differently?
- Do you feel that you are making the progress you want on your chosen path?
The Mindful STOP Practice
- Stop whatever you’re doing.
- Take a few deep breaths.
- Observe what is happening. What physical sensations are you feeling? What emotions? What are you thinking? What is your best intention?
- Proceed. Continue doing what you were doing with more mindful awareness.
By using STOP during the day, you may notice negative self-talk, or that your body is becoming tense, or you are hungry and should take a break. The more you STOP during the day, the more mindful you become and the more you engage with reality.
Five Minute Wellbeing Exercise
- Feelings: How do you feel? Anxious, angry, sad, depressed, happy, grateful?
- Thoughts: Are you self-critical or self-compassionate? Are you confident when you try something new?
- Body: Do you exercise? Healthy diet? Sleep seven to nine hours a night?
- Spiritual: Do you meditate or have a spiritual practice?
- Be curious. Forgive yourself and others. Practice gratitude. Keep a gratitude journal.
- Do you have five minutes a day for yourself? Five minutes to stop and rest in mindful awareness? Make a habit of taking five minutes for yourself. Take three deep breaths whenever you’re feeling overwhelmed.
- Love yourself. Be your own best friend. Five minutes will easily become 20. There is no failure, no expectation, but always a new beginning.
